Three cities have had the honour of being capitals within Georgian territory. Each played--and continues to do so--an important role in the country's history. Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Iberia and spiritual centre of the country; Kutaisi, in ancient times known as Aiad from where Aeëtes, the father of Medea, ruled; and Tbilisi, the present- day capital called into being during the reign of King Gorgasali. Within the walls of each a unique history has played out.
This trip will take you to a most beautiful region of Georgia and the cradle of wine
production--Kakheti--where you will find out about the centuries-old, traditional way of
making wine in vessels buried in the ground, and taste the product of some of Georgia’s
more than 500 grape varieties. The surroundings of Georgia's ancient capital, Tbilisi,
are very inviting and the city has unique architecture. Besides historical information,
local lore and legend abound. You will visit Sighnaghi, the city of love. You will stand in
awe of an amazing monastery hews out of the rocks. We will introduce you to
churchkhela--a cleverly made delicious and nutritious sweet, and you will not be able to
resist warm bread freshly ‘hooked’ from the typical round, stone oven.
Ancient history, diverse culture, European and Asian styles of architecture, restaurants that offer delicious Georgian national dishes will make of one week-end an unforgettable experience. In the evening you can enjoy wonderful views of Tbilisi on both banks of the Mtkvari. In your leisure time you can explore two beautiful cities: Tbilisi and Mtskheta.
